Digital Innovation for the European Capitals of Culture – A new way to experience transformative tourism
The goal of the project was to develop a digital ecosystem to promote transformative tourism in the European Capitals of Culture, connecting tourism operators with creative industries. The application was designed to offer interactive and personalized content, ensuring a unique experience for each user.
Digitalization and Gamification for the European Capitals of Culture
Game of TraCEs is a web platform designed to guide travelers in discovering the cultural and creative offerings of different European Capitals of Culture (ECoCs) and to promote visits to these cities. The platform promotes transformative tourism, highlighting local resources and heritage.
The system integrates multimedia content - videos, images, and articles - that tell the hidden stories of these European Capitals of Culture. Each user can create their own digital passport of European Capitals, explore and save their preferred experiences based on their travel needs, and then obtain a participation visa once they have visited the Capital of Culture and experienced it firsthand.The platform is designed to be easily expandable, allowing for the integration of new content and features through APIs. The user interface, optimized for both mobile and desktop devices, ensures a smooth and accessible experience.Additionally, the content management system (CMS) allows partners to upload and validate content, ensuring the quality and reliability of the published information. Gamification not only entertains but also fosters a sense of authentic connection between travelers and destinations.
The project was developed in close collaboration with creative industries within the commissioning consortium, particularly those specializing in destination marketing and the cultural and creative industries.
Innovation, Gamification, and Enhanced Engagement.
The project introduced a new way to approach transformative tourism. Through gamification, it reached new tourist segments, enabling them to discover cultural experiences within the network of European Capitals of Culture that were closely aligned with their interests and profiles. The web app "Your Cultural Passport" engaged tourists by encouraging them, starting from one of the Capitals of Culture, to also visit other cities within the network.
